GATS # and the importance of getting your NBA a copy of the file.
|
|
As we have decried for years, we really need GATS numbers for your case files. An increased number of cases don't have GATS numbers on the Step 2 Appeal to Arbitration or the Step 3 Appeal. In a number of cases it is because the local has failed to go into EGS and modify the Step 2 grievance form. Double-check your denials to see if the GATS number is on there. In most cases it is because management as failed to meet at Step 2, or issue a written denial. Attached to this is the MOU on GATS. Read it, follow it, put a copy on the wall. This is especially important because we have a new part-time secretary that will be doing all of the case file input. We have been very spoiled by having a secretary that was a former postal worker and Union steward/officer. Our new employee is not doing to know how far to dig into a case file to try and find the GATS number. The other reason we need a GATS number is because we are now going to rely on our internal system called CAS to discuss grievances with management. Previously we have always relied on them sending us a list. No more!!! This also is why we need you to send us your case file when you send up the appeal. The quicker you do that, the quicker your case will be discussed. If you "forget" to send us the case file, it won't be discussed until management brings it to our attention. We are doing what we can to streamline the process and make sure none of the cases are unnecessarily delayed. GATS #s are a crucial part of that.
